Beautifully written historical fiction. Grace was the lighthouse keeper's daughter who became famous after helping rescue the survivors from the Forfarshire wreckage (1838). Sarah Dawson was one of those survivors. Their story and a locket has been passed down many generations and now belongs to Matilda. In 1938 Matilda is a young soon to be mother from Ireland who has been sent to America until she delivers her baby. Matilda finds inspiration, courage, and hope as she learns more about Grace Darling and Sarah Dawson. She also discovers other family secrets as she learns more about living at the light house with Harriet in America. I was excited to read in the author's notes at the end that Grace Darling and her rescue is a true story that gave inspiration to the author to write this touching book.
