The Great American Read

So many of us are busy with vacations, family reunions, and other summer activities that we have decided to not meet in August. I hope you are all enjoying your summer. Our next book group meeting will be September 19 at 6pm. We will all be reading a different book. Your book needs to come from the PBS list for The Great American Read. Come ready to tell us about your book (link to list https://bento.cdn.pbs.org/hostedbento-prod/filer_public/gar-phase-2/assets/TGAR_BookChecklist_2018.pdf).

This is a historical fiction that gives us a different look at the kind of person Shakespeare could have been and how he found love, support, and strength from his friends and family. I liked the new way of looking at William Shakespeare, his wife Anne Hathaway, and their three children. What kind of person do you picture Shakespeare to be?

Interesting book that is "written" by the main character, Christopher, who is autistic. He is investigating the crime of who killed Wellington (Mrs. Shears dog), However along the way he discovers not only the truth of who killed the dog but that his mother is not dead like he had been told. I like "seeing" how his mind worked through different situations. But did not like all the swearing that was used. This book is on the banned books reading list.

Camino Island

Camino IslandCamino Island by John Grisham

Book discussion May 23 at 6pm

It all starts when precious irreplaceable manuscripts are stolen from the Princeton University’s Firestone Library. Mercer Mann is a novelist with a case of writer’s block. On top of that she has recently lost her teaching job and is over her head in student loans. When she is asked to go undercover to Camino Island to get to know and watch Bruce Cable in exchange for a good paycheck and her student loans forgiven she takes the offer. But Bruce has a few secrets up his sleeve. He is the owner of a bookstore, he is fond of female authors, he has a rare book collection, and may or may not be using the black market for his rare books collection.
