Ada is a young girl that has never left her apartment because of her twisted foot. But when the children of London are being evacuated to escape WWII she joins them. Along with Jamie, her brother, they move in with Susan Smith who teaches Ada that she has much to live for and that there are many forms of love during this terrible war.
